I have no idea why they are so rude, but you are right, it is annoying. I wish they were more polite and respectful of other people.

why are people from the south so rude? lol im from ny originally and taking my friends there for a visit they were amazed at how the general public was so helpful and friendly in the city. I think alot of the problem is the accent, it makes them sound rude even tho i dont think its intentional. When i moved to the south i was so unaccepted it took me a year to find a job just because i was a yankee. after bieng here for 30 years i still find people rude and unaccepting of anyone different. The city of new york was rated as one of the friendliest cities in the country. Maybe floridians need to get with the 21st century and be a little more accepting of difference. In the are of florida where i live it was like living in the dark ages back in 79. there was still ku klux clan parading out in the streets . Maybe you should thank people from other states for moving into your area. And if you look at it realistically you will see these folks have probably helped your area. Personally the comment "they are intruders and should go home" says alot . It makes you sound narrowminded and beyond rude. Anyone can move anywhere in this country , deal with it

Hi!
I'm originally from NY and lived in NYC while in college and worked down in the Trade Center for many years (heartbroken about that... I lost so many friends and acquaintances).
I was never a victim of crime, nor were any of my friends. Regarding the "Obnoxious factor", not ALL New Yorkers are that way! Even WE notice it. It's just a noisy minority who ruin things for everyone.
I've lived for more than 1/3 of my life now in CT and have a hard time of it when the "Leaf-Peepers" come up here. You are right about noisy, brash, pushiness- but it's just a few people! (have you ever noticed that one loud person can fill a room?!) Just remember though: it's the few who stand out who are ruining every New Yorker's reputation. If you hear a NY accent don't compartmentalize, please give the person a chance to be themselves before pre-judging them--------> they could be really cool, interesting & polite people!
New Yorkers are generally exposed to more stimuli than most people and that can make a person less sensitive to their external environment (talking loudly, etc.) and their perception of personal space is smaller, so they will get in line behind you a little closer than you're probably used to- they're not conscious of it! I've found that some of it is ethnic/cultural as well and the more obvious 'Yorkers' tend to come from the outer-boroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, etc.), but that doesn't make them horrible humans- quite the contrary!
It sounds like you're experiencing "Vacation People" who are literally , as you put it, "Intruders". They are just cutting loose and having fun in your environment and not necessarily being their "normal" selves. We experience it all the time up here in CT, being so close to the city, and we just accept it as a compliment!
I guess that what I'm saying is that while I agree with you to an extent that they CAN be different, don't immediately put everyone into a box- you could be missing out on meeting really nice people!
:)

It's not so much that they are rude as it is a difference in culture. They live in a high pressure, fast paced area and then go to a place with a slower pace and expect to move at the same fast pace.
ex: my new neighbors moved here (Texas) from New Jersey. They told me about their trip to a local diner for breakfast and couldn't understand why the wait staff thought they were rude. The reason: They went straight to the business of ordering their meal, rather than respond to the waitress' greeting and engage in brief idle chit chat about the weather for a bit.

We are not ALL rude and obnoxious. Though I do agree with you. I can go on about some fellow NJ"S but, everywhere you have the same problem. When I first came here from NJ i thought that people from Ohio, Michigan and Illinois were rude. So there you have it. Suck it up and play nice.

Many people from New York and New Jersey behave in a way that people from other less urban areas consider abrasive or rude. They speak loudly, they demand things, the wheedle and try to bargain and they just act differently. Their behavior is entirely appropriate in NYC but not so much in the South.
I go up to Atlantic City, NJ every few months and am amazed at how dreadfully some of the casino patrons behave. It shocks me that people can be so pushy and rude.

Well look where they come from.....A very high crime place!
I met someone from New York once and they told me that when a crime happened there in NY that they did not even put it on the news because they have so many crimes, that the news could not cover them all!
AS for "GEM"......You are the frieking idiot!
I don't know how you can say that it is the safest city, with ALL the many crimes that are there!!!!!!
PLUS....For your info....I just gave my opinion of the place!! You know here in NC we DO have the right to our own opinion!
I was not saying that everyone there was rude!I GUess where you are from, the ppl are not free to give their opinion!!!
You are the IDIOT!!!!!!
I mean ....the damn police are scared over there! What good is that doing for the ppl that are good over there and need protection?
It's lots of crimes, because ppl know that they can probably get away with it!
I would never live there!
If someone were to "give" me a million dollar home there, I would still not move there!!!
I know that it is crime all over this world, but I think it is lots more there in NY!
Now you also have to remember that there are good ppl everywhere too!!!!
By the way...I am from NC

Have you met every single person from NY and NJ? Have you asked every person you consider rude in Florida if they are born there? If not then how can you make such a generalization? Yes, there are rude people from NY and NJ, but there are rude people from every state in this nation. Don't generalize about people, it can be considered rude.

Your statement is pretty judgmental and stereotypical. Not ALL people from NY and NJ are rude. That would be like saying ALL people from the south are hospitable, as we know they are not. It is just the crude obnoxious people tend to be more noticeable. I've been to NY many times and have met plenty of helpful, kind people.

It's the drinking water and polution I thinkn or perhaps they are pissed off for living in crap. I'm originally from Jersey and I got out before my 18th birthday and unless my accent comes out from time to time you wouldn't know. I have experienced the rudeness and not sure what the problem is.
