The H-K G-3 or H-K-91A1 is a magazine fed, gas operated battle rifle which fires the 7,62x51NATO(.308Win.) cartridge. It is fed from a 20-or 30-round magazine, which are changed when one is emptied, the next full mag replacing the empty once it is removed. The G-3 bolt remains to the rear when the last round is fired, and the bolt is released with the charging handle on the side of the weapon.
There are hundreds of pix on the net, just run a google search for 'H-K G-3 rifle'.
To Whom it may concern:
To quote your great 'Wikipedia', among other sources:
"The breech is unlocked when both rollers are compressed inward against camming surfaces driven by the rearward pressure of the ... 'expanding exhaust gases'... upon the bolt head. As the rollers move inward recoil energy is transferred to the locking piece and bolt carrier which begin to withdraw while the bolt head remains locked in battery."
This is 'GAS OPERATED' or 'GAS ACTUATED' in every technical sense of the definition. . . . . .

I know Wikipedia isn't the always the best source for information but upon looking at their write-up on the HK G3 I would recommend going there and checking it out, it is accurate and pretty informative.
And to correct a certain "top contributor", the G3 is NOT gas operated. The G3 (and most other HK rifles) are "roller delayed blowback operated" which is significantly different than "gas operated" and anyone that supposedly owns a G3 (I suspect it is actually an HK 91 unless the "top contributor" is a class III license holder) and has the stated credentials should know this.
Edit; Sounds to me like someone (Grizzly) can't admit when they're wrong. What's next, are you going to try to convince me that a mini-gun is "gas actuated"? Just admit that you messed up. With your supposed credentials you should know that "gas operated" and "roller delayed blowback" are two entirely different weapons operating systems, quit trying to stretch the definition of gas operated to encompass something that it isn't. The roller delayed blowback is what makes the CETME/HK family of weapons unique when compared to the run-of-the-mill gas operated weapons out there, saying that the G3 is a gas operated weapon is an ignorant statement.
No where in my answer did I say that "Wikipedia" was great, I know that it's full of errors. I was merely trying to avoid a lengthy write-up because I was at work and didn't have time to draw upon my personal experiences with the G3 and MP5. Instead I found an accurate description of the G3 on Wikipedia and simply directed the question to that source, at least I didn't elaborate my answer with false/misleading information.
I apologize to anyone having to read this rant but let's call a spade what it is and not a shovel. Sure both move dirt but it's how they move it that makes the differance.

The G3 is a roller-delayed gas blowback select-fire battle rifle, but civilian versions are going to be semi-auto only, in most cases. For more information on the operation and maintainance of these rifles, check out:

You should be able to field strip and functions test any rifle before you're going to fire it. Make sure you know what you're doing before you do it, firearms can be deadly when mishandled.

Place 15 7.62mm rounds into magazine gently, you should keep them dry and clean, g3 is a powerfull weapon hold it tight. then place magazine to bottom of rifle, very important don't hit to bottom of magazine while you are reloading, than pull handle in the left side of rifle, and release it back strongly, if you don't release it strong enogh you won't be able to shot, than your rifle ready to shot. You can use your rifle by night vision kit or a sniper scope. it also fires rifle bomb. if you hold your rifle leaning to one side you can see some lines over magazine they give you ability of prediction of distance so you can fire to aircraft, or light armored vehicles while they are moving. g3 rifle also fires armor ignoring bullets, which are effective to a composite helmet from a distance of 600 meters

No it's not a bolt action. HK is a 93, G3 is a CETME. two different manufacturers.
Both are semi-auto, if you have a Class III license you can purchase and shoot the HK93 in full auto. It's 7.62x51 Nato round (.308 US equivalent).

Based on that question, please inform us of your location so that we can get the hell away!
You seriously need some classes before you put ammo in that thing.
