just wonderin..my aunt is coming home in our country from Canada this coming Christmas and she's is asking us here for our wishlist. Actually, I'm not a fad of wishlists; but I wondered if could somehow ask her to bring something out of the usual, besides gadgets, garments, etc..

What would be a good thing to ask her that would fit that category? (I originally wondered if maple leafs would be a good one, but I ruled that out, thinking it somewhat absurd)

The most common souvenirs that people get here and that are available in all the gift shops are maple sugar, maple syrup, snow globes, t-shirts, sweaters, mugs, a hockey jersey or flag from one of the Canadian hockey teams (Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Maple Leafs, Senators, or Canadiens).

One of the things I ask for is that they bring me back some loose change from their trip. I have a box full of coins from around the world doing this. It does not cost them a lot, does not take up a lot of room, and the coins are interesting to look at to see the different styles of money from all the different countries.

If she really wants to buy you a "real" gift from a store, then there is also First Nations art such as Inuit stone carvings and such that you may be interested in. Or perhaps music by Canadian artists that may be hard to find in your country. There are the big names (Avril Lavigne, Anne Murray, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion) and then the lesser knowns on the international circuit (Cowboy Junkies, Blue Rodeo, Susan Aglukark, The Rankins)

I have included a link to the Canadian search engine "Canoe.ca" which may be of some help.

I work in a Canadian store that sells mostly to Americans. Some of the items that we sell a lot of for gifts are
Maple syrup
Coffee crisp chocolate bars
Aero bars
Macintosh's toffee
We have lots of jewelry that have maple leaves on it. You could ask her to surprise you with something that you can not get in the US.
Good luck and have a great visit.
