All cases set for trial go on the court Docket.

That is public record. Go to the county Clerk of Court and check the Docket. Many places have the Docket on line now. If not, just show up at the Clerk's office and view it.

As long as it is not a juvenile case, or some case that the judge has ruled closed, ALL criminal court proceedings are open to the public.

So, find when it is scheduled and then you can just show up and sit through the trial.

As it was in your local paper the trial is likely to be in the nearest court, I'd assume Crown Court, you could either ring the court office or go in and ask as you already have the date and the name.

If you go along to ask, the Usher will show you the court and where the public gallery is (better done on a Friday pm!) if you do attend, and proceedings have begun the usher may ask you to wait for a natural break, even though it is an open court. If the son was a minor, there may also be parts of the trial - but not all 'en camera' ie where the general public are excluded.

If it is an open court then you can just go along to the court on the day of the trial. The ushers will show you how to access the public gallery

Once you find out where and I presume it will be in a l;ocal Court you will find a notice on the day in the court building saying what Court room it is to be held in. Unless the Jusdge is summing up you can just walk in and sit in the public gallery (a few seats at the back) The Court Usher is very busy and possibly pre-occupied but he will give you directions
