I was so upset when I heard a playback of my voice. Now I understand the strange looks I get when talking to people.

Well done and be proud of your efforts I suppose a speech therapist would be able to help ask at your local hospital ,and for the record nobody like the sound of their own voice . I think your great getting over a stroke is not easy ,good for you and take no notice of other people if they know you've had a stroke then they should understand and i'm sure they do it is only you that is feeling it ,good health for the future .

That is a great achievement.

My dad went through a similar event affecting him neurologically, and to me his voice sounds just a little different too but having him still with us is enough. He recovered without a speech therapist.

A speech therapist might help and also ask your doctor about the sound of your voice maybe there are hormone drugs you can take to change the sound.

Good luck.

Nobody likes the sound of their own voice so it may not be as bad a syou think, what do other people close to you think? Don't know if you're in the U.K. but if you are you should be getting help from a speech therapist. They can give you exercises to re-train your voice. But you've done really well to get as far as you have so keep going!

Good on you for teaching yourself to speak again, you should be proud of what you have achieved. Try talking to your GP about seeing a speech therapist and although it might be hard, try listening to your voice on tape so you can hear what you want to change so you can practise speaking. Another way is to place a cork between your teeth to try to help you pronounce your words clearer but definately try your GP or just have a look in the phonebook for a speech therapist who will be able to help.

I think that is marvellous, what an achievement after suffering a stroke.I don't like the sound of my voice either, and I haven't suffered a stroke.See if you can find a sympathetic doctor who can refer you to a speech therapist.Best of luck.

Have you spoken to your doctor about it. Perhaps they could put you in touch with a speech therapist or suggest something else. Well done you though for learning how to talk again.

Contact an audiologist or a speech therapist to get some pointers, their field involves retraining folks to speak again.

sing!!..really!!!........... congrats on accomplishing something that's really difficult, especially by yourself!!... but for the 'fine-tuning', a speech therapy class would really be a big help....

and, I agree... practice!!... read aloud... get yer lips around those words that give you problems and work on them on your own, too!... just get the advice of a professional to learn the easiest ways to do that!!!... and the right ways!!.... best of luck to ya!!..
