I've noticed at looking at different religions I see some common threads and I'd like to have your thoughts.

First there is the "bonus" you get for joining: Heaven, eternal life. As an example: Mohamand promised virgins, Jesus promised Mansions..."IF" you follow their picticular teaching.

and I right here?

The Down-Side: If you reject the "teachings" and don't become a follower...you revieve hell and will be burnt, nashing of teeth day and night and so forth..."IF" you don't follow and "believe" they are who they say they are.

What I get from Chrsitianity is this: Follow it and you get a Mansion and eternal life....don't follow it and you will be forever in FIRE tortured night & day forever and nashing your teeth.

Am I wrong in this conclusion??? Can anyone tell me I'm wrong in my understanding WITHOUT Double talk?
I guess I would appreciate some honesty and straight forwardness.......am I wrong?

All religions do not view the world this way.

Only the aberhamic religions stress this good against evil idea.

In truth it is all good. It is just impossible to see the truth if you have been trained to see the world in terms of good against evil.

Love and blessings Don

No, you're not wrong. This is how religion works. There are absolutes involved which the people of today don't want to hear but it doesn't change where they'll end up after death.

By the way, in Islam, there is not promise of virgins. That was all a trick to get men to join a sect which led to the word "assassin"

Yes, your wrong. Your making it sound as though that the reason someone joins the faith is for material heavenly things such as mansions, eternal life.etc. Thats not the reason. I dont know about other professing christians, but I for one became a christian just for the simple fact that I am sinner and by my actions I deserve the wrath of a holy God. But that holy God provided a way for me to be saved from that wrath. Thus the reason why we have Jesus. We go to heaven to have fellowship with the father.

I agree it can be viewed that way and that might motivate some people initially but I don't think it will keep them. Personally that's not why I am a Christian. Over the years I have changed and grown in my understanding of what God is. Understanding that he is everything good, positive, loving ... and not the misconstrued, distorted, minimalized image that humans make him into out of our boxed-in little minds. Believe me, I was there once. To me, hell is not eternal damnation in a fiery place. It is being without God.

Yes, I think you are on to something, but I might put it like this... there are those who follow the teachings of Jesus, and those who are in the habit of turning his teachings upside-down and they do it in "his name." So yes, there is the good and the bad coming from the same religion.

This is the resource about this very subject... right side up, and up side down.

While my spiritual path does not include either of these, i choose to concentrate on the good and positive aspects of life.
The two major themes that run through my spiritul path are faith and truth. While truth may differ to everyone, for nobody sees any one thing the same, the faith is what keeps me going.

You do have a choice ya know...you do not need to adhere to either of these religions. You can do as many others as well as myself have done....seek out your own spiritual path and find what is true and good for you....find what makes your soul sing and dance.

just my humble pagan thoughts

i hope you find what it is you seek....blessings to you

In my opinion according to the Bible you're pretty close. But it is not so much about following a particular teaching. It is about faith and a relationship with Jesus.

You are talking more or less about Abrahamic religions who pick up that notion of good and evil duality from Zoroastrianism.

Have a read of the Tao Te Ching for a different perspective.

Pretty much.
Truth is there is good and evil.
People choose which side they are on and then will spend eternity living with the consequences of that decision.

That seems about right. The only thing is that I think that eternal reward is not guaranteed for Muslims, where as it's pretty much a done deal for Christians.
