Natural disasters have been happening for all time. Another way to look at hurricane Katrina is that the 3 states hit, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas are 3 of the most believing states in the union. If god really wanted to hit the godless people, he'd do something to Washington State. Maybe God hates Christians?

What about historical disasters? The influenza epidemic of 1918 killed 20 million people. Our recent hurricanes and fires are nothing compared to that. The asker is just trying to fit her foollish views onto natural events.

Like the other Southern states, Louisiana is mostly Protestant; however, there is also a large native Catholic population in the state, particularly in the southern part of the state, which makes Louisiana unique among Southern states. The current religious affiliations of the people of Louisiana are shown in the table below:

Christian — 80%
Protestant — 50%
Baptist — 38%
Methodist — 4%
Pentecostal — 2%
Other Protestant – 16%
Roman Catholic — 30%
Other Christian — 1%
Other Religions — 10%
Non-Religious — 10%
A number of cities in Louisiana are also home to Jewish communities, notably Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. The most significant of these is the Jewish community of the New Orleans area, with a pre-Katrina population of about 12,000

There hasn't been a large non-Christian population in that part of the South in a long time, so, just who are you saying "God" was trying to clear out?

Why don't you just say what you really mean and have done with it, I promise I will not think you any less a bigot if you come clean.

That is a terribly cruel and unjust idea. God said that He would return when the end of time comes. These things are the natural events in the world He has created. If there was any divine lesson at all in Katrina it was that the officials were corrupt to the point of endangering the people.

it has nothing to do with the religious choice of these people...they live close to the ocean in New Orleans and in CA there is always fires...these people know the risk they take in living there...it is Mother Nature that is swift and violent at times, renewing herself...she is not going to take heed just because some people are living there...would it make people feel better if it was an island or some land somewhere where no humans live, then it wouldn't be of much concern..even if there was thousands of animals being killed....nature disasters happen all the time and are going to happen no matter what...you just have to know the risk you are taking in where you live

There is no god. The above events are just natures's way of telling us we're pushing the limits; (in New Orleans case) if the CA fires are arson, that's man made and someone must take responsibility.

And there are tornadoes that go and wipe out half of the Bible belt *every year*. If natural disasters are just God "cleaning house" due to the sinful nature of the area's inhabitants, how would that be explained?

If so, then you would have to wonder why 'god' destroyed all the churches and allowed all of those believers to die in New Orleans too.

I think it is reasonable to expect the almighty to have better aim and discrimination but what we see is the 'saved' and the 'sinners' affected alike. Isn't it more reasonable to think that it was just a natural disaster?

well, i'm from louisiana, and i can say that voodoo isn't widely practiced anymore, i know that witchcraft is more rampant than ever, but it's really everywhere, not just in new orleans, but i have said befor that new orleans is a very sinful city, and god's wrath can only stand so much from the people he created. yes, i agree that these are prophesied events of what we are to expect before the coming of the lord, god is trying to reach us, to get people to turn from their ways, to accept jesus bfore it's too late, because if people are worried about the conditions now, they will really be worried during the tribulation.

My, what a vengeful and dark God you have created for yourself.

If God were to work like this, then anyone who sinned in any tiny way would be in danger of being killed in some horrible fashion.

The Christian God is a God of love and forgiveness, who allows repentence for sins and who rejoices at people who see the Light.

I hope this gives you a more moral and clear sight of the perspective you claim to be after.
