How many gems do you think I will need to fill (shallow-ly) the bottoms of the low 6" glass bowls for my reception? I'm ordering the 9/16" size, 96 pcs per pound.
Thanks.

Just to be safe I would probably order enough so that one bag of gems would be used for two bowls. It would suck to have to order more and for some reason the company not have the same thing in stock...

However, if you go to a craft store, get a bowl (from the craft store) that matches close to yours and take it over to the section that has the glass gems (usually in the flower section, candle section, or even in the wedding section of the store)... then looking at the bag and the bowl together, you might get a better idea of how many beads will need to go in each bowl. If there is a way to untie the bag of gems, go ahead and try it out, just put everything back! (And remember to make sure that the bag you try out at the craft store is also one pound like the bags you are ordering)

By checking out the craft store too... you may realize that you can just buy the gems there rather than ordering and paying for shipping... up to you!

Good luck!

The only way you can find out is if you can find a bag of similar gems and a similar bowl at an area store...even if it will be a little more expensive..that way you can try it and see how many you need to order. It will be the wisest thing to do to assure that you will buy enough gems. And besides, you will have an idea of what it would look like versus a pic in your head.

I did the same thing for my wedding and ended up buying them at Walmart. I'm not sure if that was the best choice, but at least I did not have to pay shipping. I would also try your local craigslist. Some body in your area might have left overs from their wedding.
