It wouldn't be difficult if we were able to stay on that road, however this is where the difficulty of life presents itself.

He just figured that out, did he? I must be the only person on Earth who hasn't read that book, but it sounds like he speaks from experience. Life is difficult, unless you opt out; it seems axiomatic to me. Also "life is suffering," which I determined for myself during many difficult times. M. Scott Peck did not have to say it, because I think everyone comes to realize this. The ones that have the most difficulty are the ones who think life should be easy and resent the fact that it isn't. Namaste and Cheers!

I like Scott Peck's books and life can indeed be difficult for many people . Disability, illness, loss of a child, loss of a parent , abuse and bullying , being underemployed, unemployed, feeling powerless to change can be reasons life is difficult. Not being able to access education due to lack of money can also make life difficult as can poverty.
However , these barriers/obstacles may also be the tools one learns from and helps form one's character and self-esteem and attitude. Despite the odds , depending on one's attitude , one can change their ' scars' into stars as Robert H. Schuller says.
Life's barriers/obstacles can either break you or make you. It's up to you.

I have always had trouble with this phrase. I read his book several times actually. I prefer to say that life will present challenges. How we approach them is the key. Life will be difficult if we avoid these challenges, or problems as some people call them. If we choose to perceive what comes our way as opportunities for growth, then life will be an adventure!
Great question. :)

Yes, life here on Earth IS difficult; it can be brutally so. We know that before we even make the decision to come here (or come back here, as the case may be). But in being here, we learn and gain spiritual strength and knowledge through those difficulties; the more (and tougher) the difficulties, the more strength and knowledge gained.

Absolutely. Life sucks sometimes, get used to it and make the best of it.
I found great insight in his idea that depression is unsettled mourning/grief about something we have not accomplished in our lives and perhaps have given up on. I'm putting more effort into making some of my "dreams" come true so that I can be more content.

Life becomes difficult when we break natural law, and since nearly everyone breaks natural law from time to time, it is the road most traveled.
Namaste has the secret in it. I bow to the God in you.
Just be who you are and the difficulties go away.

Of course life is difficult! For without difficulties to overcome, how is it we develop faith, courage and wisdom?

Yes. Life is difficult and people really need to accept that fact and stop running from the truth.
