The paternal side of my fathers family are hasidic Jews. The rest of my family were Protestant Christians of various denominations. I grew up in the Moravian Church and remained there for almost 50 years, 25 of those as a minister.
My MA is from a Baptist seminary with a degree in reformed theology and my PhD is in religious studies from a Methodist University. I have lived in the former Soviet Union where Orthodoxy was the primary religion, in the Middle East which was Islam, in southern Africa where the primary religion was animism and in the Philippines where most are Catholic Christians.
So, I would have to say that I have predominately come to my religion from study.
In Christ

My parents did not attend any church when I was growing up. My Mom's dad was a former Methodist minister, who left the ministry, made millions in restaurants and was into satanic religion. Her mom was into the occult. My dad's parents were orphans with no faith in God at all.
At age 18, I became a believer in Jesus Christ. I met a group of young believers, they shared their experiences with Jesus with me. I chose to trust Jesus and become a Christian, instead of commit suicide. I had planned to kill myself, but really didn't want to do it. I didn't do comparative studies before I made my choice; I was in a crisis situation. However, I've never, ever been sorry for one minute that I became a believer.
When my parents saw the difference Jesus made in my life, they both became Christians within 6 months of me. My faith in Jesus seems miraculous and wonderful to me because my mom's dad abused me in satanic ritual worship and the first church I ever visited as an 8 year old, the pastor molested me. I was a very unlikely convert to Christianity.

My parents called themselves Christian, and we went to church on Sunday, but none of it came into our home. There was no Christ-like atmosphere at home; no praying together, no mention of Christ, no Bible reading, etc.
I considered myself an atheist until the age of 33. At 33, I had a supernatural intervention from God that I couldn't deny, and it was one that obviously pointed towards Christianity. I won't go into details here, because I would only be attacked.
After this, I began to study the Bible. While I believe the Bible is essentially correct, I don't believe it is infallible. Too many human hands have gotten ahold of it.
What I concentrate on is Christ's message. I attempt to be as much like Christ as I can be in my day-to-day life.
I will never be swayed in my belief in Christ. I've seen too much evidence of the Christian God in my life to ever go back.

I want to be a CHRISTIAN but not a CHIRSTAN.
My parents were Christian, and so were my grandparents and my great grand-parents. I see nothing wrong with my being a Christian if it makes me happy. I love God. I believe in Jesus.
Do you have a problem with people who don't study every religion in the world before deciding upon one? Do you abhor tradition?
I am happy with what I have.
I've read about a few other religions.
I've learned some about Wicca and paganism.
I care nothing for Muslim or Buddhism, what little I know about it.

Both. I was lucky enough to grow up in a house where people really lived what Jesus taught. As a teenager and again as a young adult I went through phases of testing my faith again and again, and after years I know that the God I got to know is indescribable but very real.

I have always believed in Jesus even though I have doubts that the Mormon church I grew up in is Christian.
I considered all Christian faiths in my journey and I found one I felt comfortable in.
Along the way God showed himself to me and showed me the Bible is true.

I am a Christian because I choose to follow the teachings of my brother who taught me, "Our father..."Churches have misled me and denied me. He never has. He leads me home to my father. I shall not want and I do not.
