Let y = x^3 and re-write it as
y^3 + y - 60 = 0
This is an example of a 'reduced' cubic equation that you can solve with what is known as the 'Tartaglia-Cardan' method (look it up on the web, it's kinda long and involved ☺)
There are also websites that have implemented Javascript engines that will do numerical solutions. Again, a search engine and a few minutes should hook you up.

1.56455^3 + 1.56455^9 = 59.999809
(which is good enough for me)
