Amok means that the emotions are not held in check or controlled rationally. (Actually amok means without control or wildly charging about).
The gist of this article means that if you don't get enough sleep you tend to be overly emotional as the part of your brain that controls your emotions is semi shut down.
Amok is also spelled amuck and is defined as "in a confused and reckless manner

Amok means out of control and the title means that sleep deprivation makes people more emotional and not as able to control it.

I agree with the above. First to run amok means to run wild. Second, problems always seem bigger and more depressing at three in the morning after tossing and turning for hours.

Amok=nuts/crazy, normally refers to a guy who run around crazy/delirious with a deadly weapon & using the weapon on people....
When u don't have enough sleep, small things that u normally ignore or brush off as a small thing will get u very angry/upset.
