I do not want to get cable, or a better TV, or a Converter box! The goverment shouldn't be able to say that all TV stations MUST send out Digital and not their Analog ones like they have!

Is there any one that feels that this is a completely stupid idea?

I am sure people don't want to pay $50-$60 for a set-top box, but they can wait in line to buy a $400 iphone, or spend $150 for an ipod. A new set-top box will probably cost less than what some people pay for cell-phone service in two months.

By the way, most European countries are stopping analog transmission as well.

The world is going digital and it is time for the TV signal to go digital as well. The original plan was to go digital in 2007, but broadcasters were dragging their feet, so the plan was delayed twice.

The open radio spectrum will be used for other services - perhaps a new band for wireless transmission, which should benefit all of us.

Congress passes many stupid laws, but this is not one of them.

Call your congressman. And ye they should, if everyone out there just broad casted willy nilly NONE would work properly. As it stands we must SHARE the airwaves.

P.S. The NTSC is getting close to 90 years old. Digital takes way less power and in general is much better for audio and video quality.

The spectrum the new ATSC takes up is less than 1/10th the size freeing up this good terrestrial transmission area for other uses, like wide area Internet, law enforcement,etc..
This will free up areas like cellular which is cluttered with law enforcement signal to start with.

Fact is the radio spectrum needs a HUGE overhaul and it just so happens that the first is TV (which is the largest section).

Ease up and embrace a little progress.

P.P.S. just so you know Digital is easier to encrypt and then harder for Big Brother to hack!

I completely agree with you!!! "Big brother" has put his big fat nose into too many people's lives with this one, I think it's one of the most ridiculous things they've ever done, and they've done ALOT! How much would you be willing to bet that whoever came up with Digital signals, is providing some sort of incentive to push this idiotic idea through?

Can't the government find anything better to do with their time than come up with stupid s**t than this?
