I think it is all blown out of proportion, really. After I read the 7th book, I didn't have a clue Dumbledore might be gay. But when Rowling said that she thought he was "probably gay," I went back over the events chronicled in Deathly Hallows and concluded that she may be right. It sounded like she didn't draw him to be specifically gay, but that, after he played out on the page, she concluded that this was likely. The fact that he did not act on it after his youthful bad experience speaks to his own restraint and strength of character. It doesn't detract from Dumbledore's character in the least.
P.S. I probably misread your question. I didn't realize the actor Michael Gambon was now being associated with "being gay." After reading some mini-bios, I don't think so! And Gambon has been around long enough that I think he'll take this in his stride. Cheers!

What I think is funny is that people are hailling this revelation as something great for gay rights. How does a fictional character in a fictional book that doesn't even mention his sexual preference help gays? The lesson here is, if you want to write a children's book that you hope will make billions and get turned into movies, don't have any overtly gay characters.

I think it's just a character in a fictitious novel. The fans will either be upset or amazed. I personally do not care, but I feel sorry for the guy that plays Dumbledore in the movies.

Just like lots of people associate homosexuality with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal after Brokeback Mountain?

Never heard of associating him as being gay. River phoenix and keeanu reeves did a gay film together. Did people think they were gay? Nope...

I don't think it's funny. That's great advertisement for our kids. "Hey mom, I wanna be just like him. Can I, huh, can I mom?" Didn't this all start out for our kids? Well, not anymore. The author just had to ruin it. In my opinion, the whole thing is now dumped in the garbage.

Doesn't Ian McKellan play Dumbledore? If that's who plays him, then he won't have a problem with it because he is gay.
