I personally use Remington HiSpeed Steel #4 in a 3" shell. Despite being steel it still is a pretty powerful load. I've been thinking about trying the new Federal load with the little fins and their wad with the fins, but I don't really have any good reason to change from what works.

Where are you in New York? I'm out by Rochester. Maybe we could hang out. Deer season is coming up after all.

#4 3" or 3 1/2" shells. You have to use steel shot legally to hunt ducks. 6 and 7 shot will leave you with a lot of wounded ducks, it takes a surprising amount of force to penetrate.

If you have to use steel shot I would use #2's or 4's. But with lead 6's would be fine. Steel shot doesn't have the knock down power of lead. good luck
