here is an idea how to fight these wildfires: National Guard oh wait they are all over in Iraq its time like these we need our military at home instead of fighting wars that are unconstitutional and for no good cause. So here is my question do you think that our military should be home taking care of its own people and defending our borders instead of fighting a stupid war? I am not saying i do not support our troops i just dont support the "war on oil"

Atleast it's close to some WATER! You don't need the National Guard to fly the copters and dump the water or whatever on a fire. I remember the last time the National Guard was called out, they murdered our own citizens on a college campus during the Vietnam War. I haven't much respect for our country since.

You need to pay better attention to news events and learn how things work.

First of all the National Guard is assisting with the wildfires. Didn't you notice all of the dark green helicopters dropping water?

Next - the claim that the war in Iraq is 'unconstitutional' is stupid. This is a claim only made by idiots who have never bothered to read the document.

And anybody who - after all this time - still thinks that the war is about oil really needs to stop living under a rock.

Not all military are trained to fight fires. They need firefighters out there, not troops. I'm sure they're using all firefighters they can. I know my cousin goes down there (from Northern Ca) with the CDF. The CDF has a lot of people all over the state prepared to leave at a moments notice.

They don't have time to train people on what to do.

It isn't the military's job to fight fires. They have some resources yes but this is a ignorant question - ignorance of the actual reason for the National Guard and what they do. And ignorance of what's really going on in Iraq.

The Santa Ana's blow every year and fires are an issue EVERY year - but predicting what and will happen is up to God.

I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but the National Guard does not fight fires. About 20 years ago a group of Marines, including the base's commanding officer, were killed trying to fight a brush/grass fire on Camp Pendelton.

There are 1,200 National Guard troops helping with the evacuation right now in California. Leave the fire fighting to the professionals.

The job of our military is not to be "taking care" of anyone.

Dumb idea. No one can contain a fire when it blows at 70mph. The National Guard is trained to fight...and start fires...wars, not trained to put fires out. There is no extra fire fighting equipment laying around. Fire fighters who work for a living and belong to unions, would object. The military gets paid a lot less and would be taking jobs away from union members.
I could go on all day.

Too bad that the environmentalists sue people for clearing the underbrush or maybe these fires wouldn't have started in the first place.

Prevention is the key. Sad that these kooky environmentalists can indirectly cause so much damage with fires.

Will anyone learn? Doubtful.

So it's not the job of the National Guard to fight a sworn enemy that has dedicated itself to the destruction of the US.... Rather they should be fighting fires in Cali? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense....

The National Guard is doing their part, large tankers equipped to drop fire retardant on forest fires have already been dispatched to Cal. Using National Guard personnel on the fire line is not a good idea.because they are not trained to fight forest fires.
