my son is right into bob the builder so he got a toddlers remote controled 'scoop' and the costume with hat and tool belt to match, a medical doctors playset, lots of little toy cars and trucks and also a trike which he learnt to pedal straight away. Thomas the tank engine train sets are also a good idea too as they love to see the little battery operated trains chuggin along. He got that last christmas just before he turned two and still loves it! He'll be 3 soon and I have already bought a toy car garage station and matchbox cars playset to drive all his cars onto.

Cubby houses, swingsets, out door climbing gyms and inflatable ball pits or soccer balls etc... are all great outdoor toys as well!

best of luck and happy bday to your little man!

My son is turning 2 tomorrow (happy bday baby) and we got him a plastic play gym thing for outdoors and a cubby house!
We also got Step 2 things like a fridge, stove and sink for inside the cubbyhouse. Seemed age appropriate and they had enough toys for inside the house - it was bout time for some outdoor play!

i bought my daughter a rocket for her 2nd b day which was only 3 weeks ago. She hasnt stopped playing with it. It is from the Early learning centre and is 30 pound. i mean it is whatever your son likes. Books are good as they promote bonding and are educational. Jigsaws, boys are a lot more active, you could get him a trampoline... Hope your son has a fantastic day :-)
