Thinking of staying at Port Douglas for 3 days, after visiting cairns. Is there much to see and do there?

I live in Cairns and personally I think a day is enough in Port Douglas, it is small township. Unless you are going out on the reef from there, just stop in and have lunch at the marina.
Heaps more to do in Cairns, the Tablelands and The Daintree Rainforest!

My friend and I stayed in Port Douglas last year for four days and wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It is much less touristy than Cairns. If you like big cities, than by all means stay in Cairns. We were busy every day we were there. Hotels were very helpful with arranging tours. Much smaller place, but wonderful shops, restaurants, beach and tours to everywhere!

I prefer PD to Carins - for a start it has a real beach - 4 miles of it - while Cairns only has an artificial one. Some amazing restaraunts but not cheap. Closer to the reef too so the trips are better value - you spend more time in the water and less time getting there!
