Well, I have both my cartilidge's pierced at the top of my ear. Neither of them hurt, lol. I went about 4 weeks ago and got my tongue pierced. Everyone was saying the clamp hurt worse but really the clamp didn't hurt at all either. Then he's like "I'm gonna count to three" I was like "Okay" Then "1, 2, 3" And he stuck it in. Didn't really feel bad. It just felt weird like What was that? You could feel it go through, that was about it. I just felt like pressure on my tongue. Like using your whole thumb then grabbing it with your hand is about all I felt. And it hurt the next day and the day after though. If it hurts just do what I did, take ibuprofen, after I did, and that sank in, I could play with it and everything. No discomfort. And it swells up for about 4-7 days. At most. I changed my ring after about 2 1/2 weeks. Hope I helped : ]

I've had my tongue pierced twice (the second time was obviously through scar tissue), and at one point I stretched it from a 12 gauge (about the average sized barbell that you'll see) to a ridiculous 6 gauge. That said, while it wasn't the most painful piercing I've received, it hurts. It hurts when you get it pierced, then it doesn't so much for about 1/2 an hour, then every time you try to eat or talk it hurts again for about 2-3 days. After that, it's old hat and you'll think it's the coolest thing you've ever done, trust me. ;) I had a ton of fun with it, and it heals quickly when you're over it (or when you accidentally lose it, like I did). It costs anywhere from $40-$80 depending on your part of town (and where that town may be). Things to look out for: bad piercers (infection, hitting a nerve), chipped teeth (metal barbells can do that, especially with a wicked oral fixation), and the ball unscrewing itself and falling off (you either swallow it or lose the barbell). If you're under 25, don't have a job that cares about your tongue, you have the money, and have a good idea of your pain thresh hold, I would go for it. Remember to be very vigilant about your oral hygiene (no alcohol-based mouthwash, trust me)!

My tongue really hurt when they peirced it, I could feel a sharp pain from my jaw to my tongue. I couldn't move my tongue at all it had swelled up so much I was afraid of it, but I clean my mouth allday and night, so that it will not get effected. Best thing for it is a preoxide for the mouth. I would sugguest if you are going to get your tongue pierced to make sure you eat well, because for about a week your going to have hard time eating. Your tongue swells up for about a week. But overall I still have it, and it been 6 years now. I'm lovin it.

It hurts some but it's pretty quick.. if you're really scared, get it numb-ed. I got it the spray numb on the top of my tongue and they clamped it and I shut my eyes and was squeezing my sister's hand and all of a sudden I felt a sharp, quick pain at the bottom of my tongue (I thought they had just started and were going bottom to top through) but instead they were finished and then you're just in shock, and they slip the ring through as they are pulling the piercing needle out. Then your tongue swells - suck ice. Mostly it just feels weird to have something in your tongue (when your not used to that) and it's swollen, puffs up to a large size, like the whole ring will be covered by your swollen tongue... But it's over and done with VERY quickly.. At Zebra in Berkeley CA, back in the day it was like $50.. but places vary the price.

Hey! its not thaaaaat bad. I did mine about four years ago. They first inject you with some stuff to make your tongue numb, before you pierce so that time you dont feel anything but after a few hours, you feel the sting. Make sure you buy an oral antiseptic to use, to clean after eating so it can not be infected and the healing process is much quicker. Make sure you drink liquid stuff for the first few days (u might as well go an a diet) e.g. yorghurt, custards etc. you cant eat solid, its just impossible to chew, or talk, besides you tongue will swell the following if you have eaten anything rough and imagine the puss...yek. Goodluck

I got mine done with no numbing.
I could feel it go through, but it didnt particularly hurt.
Numbing isnt good for piercings, it slows down the bodys healing reaction, people can be allergic to it... and it defeats the point of the piercing really!
all peoples reactions after is different. I know of some people who's tongue didnt even swell!
mine swole up loads. it never hurt just made it hard to talk and eat. Ice cubes are good for keeping the swelling down a bit

I am the biggest baby in the world and I got my tongue piercied. It didn't hurt a bit! They put numbing stuff on my tongue and the equipment and it went so fast I didn't even know he did it. It was mildly to moderately swollen for 6 or 7 days, but I could eat and do everything normal. It looks great too! Now if I could only muster up the courage for a tattoo.....

When I had mine done it was like a big pinch like getting your ears done. It swelled for about 1.5 - 2 weeks. I had lots of slushees and soup until it felt better. It was hard to eat spaghetti or chew gum though. I ended up tearing my tongue a little bit and took it out for four hours and it healed up before I could put it back in.

My sister had it done and she said it was the worst mistake she ever made, she took it out after 2 weeks and let it grow over. She's got a lot of piercings and she said that one hurt the most.
