Which.
The chicken.
Everything that was made in the beginning by God contained the DNA code for its successors.
This is shown in Genesis and Adam was formed from the "dust of the earth" (Adam means of the earth) and chemically all we are is found in the earth. The children came after Eve was formed (by cloning).
Genesis 1
11And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
and reaffirmed in verse 29
29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Science say 'neither', because it's a lot more complicated than simply saying 'chicken' or 'egg'. You've got to consider evolution, mutations in dna and rna, and a whole lot of other factors.
edit: Basically what Paul B said. Except the egg he's talking about is not a 'chicken' egg, but an egg laid by a chicken-like animal.

Why do people so strongly believe that it has to be a CHICKEN egg???
The egg came first. It was a dinosaur egg, or other reptile egg, or fish egg, or whatever egg, but it was an egg. Chickens didn't exist in the beginning of creation, but other animals did.
DINOSAURS AND CHICKENS
Dinosaurs first appeard 230 million years ago. Chickens are birds, and birds evolved from dinosaurs. Chickens were first domesticated in Asia, and I will quote from the University of Illinois Extension website:
"Domesticated chickens may have been kept in India as long ago as 3,200 B.C., and records indicate they were kept in China and Egypt as early as 1,400 B.C."
Ah, but what came first - the or the egg? Now that's a lot tougher to answer!

Egg. Mutations occur during development, so protochickens must have come from chicken-ancestor eggs. Eventually as evolution made the bird more and more chicken-like, a protochicken laid an egg containing a modern chicken.

The chicken......and even if you take it from the evolution point of view....the chicken.
in a religious P.O.V the chicken was created by God.....coz it never mentions him making eggs....rather "the fowl of the air"
in a science P.O.V the chicken evolved from a single cell or summit.....like the rest of the earth

I believe the chicken, as the chicken has to create the egg in order to get another chicken.

Science tell in evolutionary process first life came in to being and gradually developed in nature, features and sexual reproduction. So science tells chicken was first.
Religion also tells same thing.

The Chicken came first.
Since you posted in the religious section,I don't think I need to include the scientific version.
God Bless.

It's actually the ROOSTER that "came" first.
By the way this question has been asked about 2,000 times. Literally:
