I'm about ten, if not twenty miles away from one of the fires, and about thirty or so from the other major ones. I am fine, though. Some of the YA Cali people are bound to end up at Del Mar, the High schools, etc. so they have a place to stay for the night. There has been at least one death. So, our YA regulars are safe if they are to evacuate.
*Thank you. I was here, too. These fires are more dangerous, though. They are the worst case of fires that San Diego has on record. :/

Grass Valley is up in Northern California between Reno and Sacramento (about an hour from each). I lived there for about ten years. It tends to have awful fires, but nothing like what's been happening in Southern California recently.

I'm another one from CA. The air is awful here! I'm in N. San Diego County. The sky is reddish brown from the smoke. I don't even have fires really close to me.
My daughter (San Marcos) was evacuated for a while yesterday and my son (Escondido) received a "backwards 911 call" 911 calls you saying he needs to be prepared to evacuate.
My cat is freaking out and I'm on the verge of tears all the time. My husband is in Canada on business so I'm by myself - with my Yahoo friends.

Do I count as one of the California boys? Either way, just letting you know that I'm okay... I'm about 40 miles south of furiousblue, actually.
Grass Valley is a podunk of about 15,000, roughly 60 miles Northeast of Sacramento. They may have some of their firefighters helping out in So-Cal, though... they often recruit strike teams from all over the state for these things.

Thanks. I do have family east of Pasadena, but they've all checked in already... as have the Imperial Valley ones.

I am very happy and relieved to know everyone is all right. Growing up, I lived through a few fires and earthquakes myself. Scary stuff.
