A ball and socket joint (enarthrosis, spheroidal joint) is a joint in which the distal bone is capable of motion around an indefinite number of axes, which have one common center.
The ball-and-socket joint is a movable joint, that consists of one bone that is rounded and that fits within a cuplike bone.
This joint is in the shoulder and hip only.

Four total.
Ball and socket joints, like your hip and shoulder joints, are the most mobile type of joint in the human body. They allow you to swing your arms and legs in many different directions.

2 (or 4, if you count left and right). These are the shoulder joint, properly called the Gleno-humeral joint, between the head of the humerus and the glenoid fossa of the scapula, and the hip joint, between the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the pelvis.
Any good anatomy book should show you these joints.
