I have a handstrap, but don't use it very much. As clumbersome as the neckstrap may seem, it does save your camera when you're jostled and bumped. Having seen my Nikon FM hit the ground hard once, I've become a devote neckstraps.

That being said, I do like the feel of a handstrap as it secures the camera to your hand. If you have just one camera body (I use two during my shoots), then a handstrap may just work well for you.

I'd strongly recommend a screen protector. A year or so ago, I bought some large adhesive screen protectors for a pda. Since then, I've cut these to size for my cellphones, cameras, and even my GPS. Any lcd screen is delicate and deserves protection.

For lenses i would stick with the 18-55 kit lens as well as the 55-200mm VR lens. Maybe look into getting the SB-400 flash which was made for the d40 to help you bounce flash for those indoor shots. It will also be good for those portraits. Make sure to get a couple of filters as well, just a normal UV filter will do. Tripods can get quit expensive but you can get a relatively cheap one as well, this will be good for low light or if you are using your camera for landscapes. I wouldn't bother with a fisheye lens as it will cost just as much as this setup unless you can find a used one or athird party lens for cheaper. The nikkor one is qute expensive though. Hope this helps you.

When my camera isn't on a tripod or in my camera bag its hanging securely around my neck. Even when I'm using my flash, mounted on an off-camera bracket, the camera strap is around my neck.

The hand grip might help you hold the camera but IMO its no substitute for a good comfortable neck strap.

1. Depends on whether you want a neck cramp or a hand cramp.

2. Only if you get a warranty.

3. No. Make one yourself by cutting a piece of clear acetate off some packaging and taping it on.

4. Don't buy that Hoodman guy another Mercedes.
