I just got a new kitty 3 days ago and she has fleas. We took her to the vet today and they put lotion on her back to get rid of them. She has only been in my room, so we vacummed the floor, changed my bed sheets, and lightly vaccumed her little kitty bed. After that we gave her a small bath. (To get rid of the poop the fleas leave, and to get rid of the dead fleas)

Should the fleas be gone now? I have seen a few on her, but my mom says their just dead ones....I dont know though. And the kittens sleeping in my bed tonight so....ya. What do you think?

Well im not sure exactly what they put on her. Cream, lotion, I dont know, it was just on her neck though. I wasnt there. My parents just told me. And the vet said they should be gone in just 2 hours.

The vet told us to give her a bath at least 2 hours after the medication. Which it was like....7 hours after.

Ask your parents to ring the vet to find out what the stuff was. It doesn't sound like the greatest advice - the vet should have used a spot-on like Frontline, and you can't bath for at least 24 hours after applying any veterinary spot-ons, because they take 24 hours to spread around the entire skin and become waterproof. If you bath 2 hours after applying a spot-on, it'll be washed off! If it wasn't a veterinary spot-on like Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate that was used, it probably isn't going to work.

If the fleas you see I just laying still, they're dead. You'll know if they're alive, because they won't stick around for 1 second!

Find out what it was the vet used. Be surprised if they didn't use on of the above 4 things! And in a couple of days time, comb kitty with a flea comb and look for flea dirts. If the stuff has worked, there won't be any.

I doubt it.
The "lotion" is probably the drops of Advantage or Frontline, isn't it? Coz I know of no lotion (which is cream form) that is a flea remedy.
It takes at least 72 hrs. for the full effect of flea control.
Your cat is probably flea-free soon,... but some (fleas or eggs of ) may still linger in your room,... corners, minute places.

***Just read your update,.. if it was "Advantage" drops that the vet put on cat's back of neck, then that's wrong instructions and information.
I contacted the Bayer Co. that makes Advantage, a veterinarian consultant for the company talked to me years ago, answering my questions.
-It takes 3 days (72 hrs) for it to work (NOT 2 hrs.)
- NOT to bath animal for at least 3-5 days AFTER the application.

[don't know what your vet used to kill all fleas within 2 hrs.,,, maybe a strong horse pesticide!

We use De Flea pet shampoo from Natural Chemistry. It works great for fleas and can be used on dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. I also give my dogs garlic pills that they sell at the pet store. We never have a flea problem.

I don't think you should have bathed her after the vet had put the lotion on her. This may have stopped the medicine from working. Ask the vet about it. Apart from that, the medicine should have worked.

you definitely took good steps at cleaning up any traces of left over fleas, however, fleas tend to just find their way back on to the kitty & carpet. i use revolution on my cats (keeps fleas off for a whole month, old fleas & prevents new fleas from hatching). i get it from my vet; they will just weigh your cat to see what dosage to give it. it's worked great for our cats. stay away from flea shampoos as they dry the cat's skin. any shampoo will get rid of fleas, as long as you bathe the cat regularly, it just won't be enough to prevent new eggs from hatching though.

do you know what flea treatment they applied? ideally you should keep treating your pets for fleas regularly and the monthly applications will ensure that your pets are flea less year round.
you can buy on-line
