A few years ago, a relative of mine and her friends were at a sleepover and were doing some rather stupid things thinking they could communicate with ghosts and stuff. Well, they maintain that they saw one, all of them, at the same time, and they all know what they saw to this day. If this is true (and you can say what you want, but I KNOW she would not lie to me about this...), what is your explanation for this?

Collective hysteria, they were all dead set and so scared that something was going to happen that the minute one of them "sees" something they all think they saw the same thing.

First I'd like to point out that atheists are defined by disbelief in gods, this doesn't mean that everything that is considered supernatural is not discountable. Just gods. Okay?
Ghosts are definately a mystery that has apparently plagued mankind since the dawn of civilisation. What they are is still unknown and there is no real way to study them. Honestly I don't discount their existence because I've witnessed somewhat ghostly activity on more than one account. I don't assign any particular belief to them, especially not a religious opinion, for the time being I'll keep an open mind.
Basically I'm saying that I can accept that ghosts exist because there's at least some evidence to suggest it.

*shrugs* So? I'm an Atheist and I believe in ghosts. Why do idiot religious think that believing in some stupid religion is a prerequisite for believing in ghosts? Guess what.... its not. Just because you don't believe in a god doesn't mean you don't believe in other things. Atheism means lack of belief in a deity, its does not mean lack of belief in anything. Ghosts do not prove the existance of a god.
Btw, your friends shouldn't be playing with that. Its dangerous.
Edit: And Atheism is not a religion so quit trying to claim it is. Get a bloody brain. And this is to the idiot that posted below me, not to the OP.

Are you talking about the witch-board? I've heard a lot of things about them and all bad. But think this, would an evil entity really want an atheist to 'start believing' in the supernatural and where it might eventually lead them? I think not.
So Des. 'Anything that is not true is a lie'? You must be wise and all-knowing above all others.

Same as my response to everything we don't have a definite answer to, "No one knows for sure"
The difference between atheists and theists is that atheists admit we don't know the answer, theists take any unknowns and slap a "Godidit" stamp on it.

Mass suggestion.
If it happened (in reality) then they should be able to reproduce the results. Unless you can reproduce the results for me, it isn't proof, you are just asking me to take your word for it. I have been contacted by a Nigerian official that would love to have your email address.

She probably managed to convince herself of the truth of whatever it was that she saw, so she doesn't believe she's lying to you. But I know that ghosts don't exist so technically, she told you something that wasn't completely true. Anything that is not true is a lie.

You go around summoning up demonic powers and they occasionally oblige.
