I was orignally diagnosed in Jan 05. The initial induction chemo put into remission and I went through 5 maintenance chemo. I didnt have any cardiac problems like that, but I had a lot of allergic reactions to a lot of different meds. The worst of which being to the ara-c (you may know it as citrabine).

I stayed in remission until Jan this year. I was again in remission after the initial induction treatment. Then went through 1 maintence treatment. However, I was participating in a trial using chloro.. something. Not a chemo I recommend. I had beyond allergic problems with this. It was very hard on my body. I was vomitting constantly and had SEVERE diarhea. I also ended up in ICU for two and a half weeks on the second treatment.

I just got done with a cord blood transplant. I guess we will see if this works.

There is one lady on her that says her 52 yr old mother has been in remission for 3 years after just chemo. So my tale isnt the only one.

I also just contacted my jr high school counselor who had had leukemia and she has been in remission for 13 years. So it just depends.

There's no real answer to your question as the remission time is different for everyone. One's remission time may be a month, while someone else could be in remission for months or even years.

This is going to vary widely from person to person-there is no set time period.
