40 years ago, corporal punishment was widely used and accepted. School children made good grades, respected authority and themselves, and crime was down. No drive by's, stabbings, muggings, and gang activity were low. Now, we have 10 year olds with guns, and no respect for anyone or themselves. kinda self explanatory.

There actually are laws in place all over North America for Protection of the Child,a Parent Guardian or Teacher would not want to have an arrest for Child Abuse in any area of the land,in the mid 60's my public school had the ever present terror of the strap not that I ever came anywhere near it but I knew a few who couldn't seem to get enough,High school was quite a bit different the teachers lived in fear of the kids.Today I think a more constructive approach is required however I would leave the option Open as a very last resort

Actually the laws are against using corporal punishment against school children, and most states have laws to this effect, as well as most other countries. A few years ago the police came to my co-workers house because of alleged child abuse. She had slapped her daughter's hand in the supermarket checkout aisle when she tried to grab some candy. In Sweden this action is perfectly legal, but in the states it's often viewed as child abuse.
