With still few DVDs available in those formats and the war not over, you are better off getting yourself a quality up-converter machine.

This is an extraordinary player at a very good price. If in the future you get more upscale with your home theater, you can have this machine modified for even more incredible results.

In the meantime you can watch all the DVDs you already own plus you don't have to go out of your way to find something to rent.

Good luck

In all honesty no. You would be better off getting a Up-scaling DVD Player. The only part of the "war" between the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray that really matters is what Studios are releasing which format to which Blu-Ray has the advantage. Both formats look awsome, sound great, and cost the same for me and you to buy. Since movies are being recorded in better quality in both sound and video, even an up-scaled DVD will be impressive. Just don't forget to buy an HDMI Cable with the player. Most don't come with one, instead you only get the old Yellow-White-Red RCA plugs.

Well.. check the selection at your BlockBuster before you dive into BluRay.

My local BlockBuster does not carry BluRay, I have to go to the next town over. When I hooked up my BluRay player, I called to ask direction to the store that does carry these disks. Transformers - the store only got 2 copies. Knocked Up - zero copies.

Then I went to NetFlix and told it to select BluRay for titles. The titles that were "Available Now", become "Very Long Wait".

So ... while the players are available, the rental companies have not made the disks available.

Dont think it is worth renting it . But if you really want to rent it , you may want to visit 88db website for more info on the prices to rent the player
