By the Word of God and the witness of the Holy Spirit in his heart:
"Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
I John 5:10-13
I have had the witness of the Holy Spirit in my heart now over 37 years.
I would furthermore add I have the evidence of a transformed nature. I can say with Paul:
"It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives within me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and delivered Himself up for me. I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness is through the Law, then Christ died needlessly." Galatians 2:20-21

Because faith gains a person substance. It's something that I had to really focus on. I kept asking myself, " Did that really happen the way I think it did?"
What I had was a quickening by the Holy Spirit, who baptized me in no uncertain way.
I know that many Christians don't experience that. But even before I was a Christian, I had spiritual things occur.
So how do other Christians know? I suppose they have a knowledge which is akin to what I experienced. Jesus said, " My sheep will know my voice" and later he said, "It is good that I go away, for if I did not go away the Counselor will not come to you." ( paraphrase from John 16:7) So what this means is that the Holy Spirit is active here on Earth, not only for Christians, but the whole world as well. Not that all are treated the same, but God has the Holy Spirit gathering those who He calls out of the world.

There are many signs that the Bible tells us. First, we know that we have past from death unto life whaen we have a love for the Bretheren. Two, when the fruit of the Holy Spirit manifests in our lives. three, our lives and desires begin to change and lastly, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit(Eph.1:13-14)

Christian - I am nothing without christ..... it's not a matter of knowing it's a matter of experiencing... some may use technical words to explain things regarding salvation, but their is one thing they are missing, the power of FAITH..

By what Scripture says: '... these things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life (1John 5:13), and the witness of the Holy Spirit within you.

Put them in water, if they sink then they are saved. Wood floats and wood burns; so things that float also burn ,and Saved people don't burn so they don't float.

wow... the bible says, if you believe the bible is true and Christ died for you, you can rest assure you are saved. Not by works but by your faith alone. Once saved, always saved.
John 5:24
" Most assuredly I say to you, he who hears my word and believes in Him who sent me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life."
