It surely can because of the tension from the hat pulls the hair and the hat can suffocate your follicles, they need to breathe too or else the could shut down.

The theory is that wearing the hat will 'rub off' any new hair that grows, causing what is already there to fall out as it naturally dies and not be replaced. However, I can tell you that it is not true. I wore hats for years, and still do and I am bald on top, but not from wearing a hat. Mine was from lack of proper protiens when I was young and staying up all night and not eating right.
Hair loss has genetic basis and can be caused by malnutrtion, stress, etc., but to my knowledge, not by wearing a hat. My grandfather wore one for 79 of his 83 years of life and had a full head of hair when he died.

There are 2 causes of baldness.
1. is Genetic, and there is nothing you can do about it.
2. is caused by things such as stress, poor diet, exposure to chemicals and irritants. Wearing a hat that irritates your scalp could cause baldness. This type of baldness is temporary.
Temporary baldness will occur in random spots on your head while genetic baldness will follow one of the classic baldness patterns.

Well, i should be bald by now.
As in primary school, we always had to wear hats. And I never ended up being bald.
But it is a good idea to take it off every now and then and let the scalp breathe.

That's just an old wive's tale. Your genetics is what causes male pattern baldness, temporary hair loss can be caused by other things like radiation (chemotherapy) stress, etc... but the hair can grow back later in most cases.
