Hi I do not want the PS3 with the 80GB because, the price tag of $599.99 & you can't play your old PS1 & PS2 games.

And is the PS3 40GB & PS3 60GB can both of them play PS1 & PS2 games? Is it the same built? Does the PS3 40GB has Blu-ray drive? Thanks!

Sony has not made things easy for costumers by offering several different models and adding new ones relatively often.

There are a total of 4 versions of the PS3. They released two (20GB and 60GB) when they launched, but those are being phased out for th new models (40GB and 80GB).

20GB ($380) - Still available, but soon to be out of stock:

60GB ($500) - Another that won't be around long:

40GB ($400) - This will start selling Nov. 2:

80GB ($500) - This is the one most places sell:

Here is a useful chart to compare the features (though they are basically all the same).

The 60GB and the 20GB are able to play every PS2 game. The 80GB can play most PS2 games. And the 40GB can play no PS2 games. (All models can play PS1 games).

Also, there are some deals you should be aware of. Right now, when you buy any Blu Ray player (including the PS3) you get five free Blu Ray movies.

Also, the 40GB PS3 model comes with a free copy of Spiderman 3 Blu Ray movie (on top of the other five movies). The 80GB doesn't come with Spiderman, but it does come with the (really good) PS3 game Motorstorm.

I hope that helps clear things up a bit.

The PS3 80 gb just got a price drop, so it's only 499.99. And it can play both PS2 and PSX games via software emulation. The catch is that it there are still games that needs the software program written for it. The upside to software emulation is that the games that's currently not playable on the PS2 should eventually be playable on the 80 gb. The downside is that it may take a while before the software is written. We've seen how well software emulation has worked for the 360. Roughly 400 titles so far, and most of the games are crappy.

All PS3 have Blu-ray because ALL PS3 games are on Blu-ray disks. The 40 gb is cheaper because 1. it has 20 gb less so that saves Sony about 10 bucks or so. 2. Blu-ray parts have gotten cheaper. 3. There's only 2 USB ports instead of 4. 4. No emotion engine, which saved Sony a lot of money.

If backward compatibility is all that important to you, get the 60 gb because it has the emotion engine, which means backward compatibility will be availalbe via hardware, which is a lot better than software emulation.

The 40 gb CANNOT play PS2 games, but it CAN play PSX games. The 40 gb DOES have Wi-Fi. Only the 20 gb version doesn't have Wi-Fi.

Here are the differences:
1). 40GB doesn't have memory slots.
2). It has 2 USBs (other models have 4).
3). It doesn't support PS2 games at all, however PS1 games can be played.

Apart from that it has same features as other models:
1). Cell processor
2). Blu-ray drive.
3). Wi-fi.
4). RSX video chip.
5). AGEIA PhysX technology, etc.

The 40G is not backward compatible but it does have Blue-Ray (All PS3 games are Blue-Ray, so it has to). It my seem like a good deal at first, but the 60G is the best way to go right now.

get 60 gigs why? 40 gigs is way too watered down with functions. for example, it is missing wifi... which is very important!!!!!!
