Do any of you experience ill health effects from diet soda? Should I worry about how much soda I'm drinking? Do you think the artificial sweeteners are dangerous? Also, do any of you believe diet soda can actually make you fat?

Don't drink so much diet soda. It's full of chemicals and such, and though I doubt that they will give you cancer or kill they likely aren't good for you.. But I must admit, diet ginger ale and diet root beer are delicious.

I too have the diet soda addiction (Diet pepsi specifically) I have read studies on the theory that diet soda makes you fat. I actually tried to cut down on diet soda and switched to water, and did drop a little weight, so do think that theory is correct. I do not think the sweeteners are dangerous though.

Not likely, unless you are cutting down on food, exercising and making a big effort. Soda has so much sugar in it. You can lose 15 lbs. a year by giving up soda. Why not drink a flavored selzer water instead or mix 1/2 selzer with 1/2 juice? It has less sugar and is better for you.

Any kind of soda will make you gain weight. They also make you retain water from the sodium which adds to the weight gain. I started drinking water and tea and lost a lot of weight with walking included in daily activities. All that sugar and caffeine is not good for you. You will notice that you have more energy if you switch to iced tea and water. You can add lemon to your water for more fat burning effects.

Check out this link, as well as the side effects articles. It takes a little time, but it's worth it. Diet soda is NOT worth risking all this stuff!

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Get off it.
I know it's not easy. Even more, it's an addiction.
The way to do it is replace it with water.
Drink a ton of water. You won't crave soda when you learn to control your activity levels.

no one really knows for sure. The government says it's safe, but there is a lot of debate on the internet about aspartame and even Splenda now. Should you worry? it depends on how confident you are of the government and their assessments of this sweetener.

You could also do your own research and make a decision on your own. good luck.
