If I switch my cat's diet to raw food, then It would be some what healthier as I heard. But will it raise a chance of getting all kind of warms?

I got my cat as a 1 month old kitten when it just just started eating dry food (it was tiny) It never seen a vet or had any shots because it seems healthy. I heard that once you get your cat de-wormed in the vet they will never get them again.

But since my cat never been dewormed is feeding it raw fish a bad idea, will it raise a chance of different kinds of worms?

Thanks for any tips!

Your cat will not get worms from eating quality raw meat. If you give your cat meat from animals treated with hormones and antibiotics you are not doing it right and might as well stick to commercial food.

Are you sure you know what you are doing? I have fed my cats a raw meat diet (organic poultry only) for seven years. I use a supplement powder which provides calcium and psyllium husk (to prevent constipation).

You need to get your "recipes" just right so I hope you will join a Yahoo group such as WholeCatHealth to learn how to do it right for your cat.

Worms come from fleas (the tapeworm does at least) or from eating live prey that have the worms in their own stomachs or intestines. Rodents and birds in particular, so no, treating for them once doesn't keep them away for life.

Raw food should be raw HUMAN GRADE meats, that have just been sliced, not stuff that's been sitting 10 days at the grocery store and another 4 days in your refrigerator. It needs to be fresh, it needs to be human grade, and it needs to be only out of the fridge for 20 minutes or so, otherwise bacteria start growing on it. You also need to supplement with a good vitamin/mineral supplement to make sure the cat gets the taurine and the correct amount of things missing in the diet you're giving him.

You can feed 1/2 raw and 1/2 commercial food. I would not do pork as that is known for carrying stuff, and stay away from fish because of the bones. They can get caught in the cat's throat just like in ours.

My friend owns cats and dogs. She feeds raw and she says she never had any problem with worms. I bet your vet will prbobly will say no. But they dont know much about cat nutrtion since they are ushually taught by Hill's(science diet makers) and Purina. Both retailers of junk food.

Do not feed it just raw fish. Ground turkey and ground beef should be a large part of your cats diet as well.

since you are not a vet, how do you know kitty is healthy?

please take your cat to the vet and at least have a fecal, deworming, and felv/fiv test done. also, until you read up on feeding raw, please feed your cat a high quality food such as welness, innova, california natural, prairie, merrick, or solid gold. these diets are balanced and contain the nutrients that kitty needs like taurine for example.

Yes. It sure can. Today's modern cat foods are prepared to give your cat the ultimate in nutrition. Vitamins, minerals, fiber, all that sort of thing. They are much safer than raw foods.

All that being said though I will on occasion give my Sophie a little raw canned mackerel. She loves that stuff and it's a real treat for her but I keep it to a minimum.

Bonn appetite'

Just because it seems healthy does not mean it does not need shots. Take it to a vet and talk to them plz
