Keeping him outside is the worst thing you can do because that is where he is picking them up! What have you done to get rid of the fleas? He needs to be treated with a treatment like Frontline or Advantix which you will get from your vet's office. Yes, they are expensive but you get what you pay for and any of the cheaper products don't work so are a waste of money. (Spoken from experience). Fleas need to have access to a warm-blooded animal to survive. Frontline and Advantix work by killing the fleas that are on him at the time of application and then repelling fleas for about a month afterward so that any that try to jump on him are repelled, or, if they try to bite him, killed. If they cannot stay on him, they do not survive to breeding age and die and then you end up getting rid of them off both the dog and the house. You will need to treat once a month so buy a 6-month packet. Depending on where you live in the country, you might be able to get away with not treating during the winter months, since fleas can't survive cold temperatures anyway, but if you live in a climate that does not regularly get down to freezing, you will need to treat year round (remember 1st of month).

To help begin the process of killing the fleas, give your pup a bath with dawn dish soap. Let it sit on the dog for a couple of minutes and the suds from the soap should kill the fleas. After that, dry and comb the dog well (use a flea comb). This should help give him some relief and in the meantime, get some frontline or advantage and treat once a month during the warm months of the year (below freezing not necessary). You do not want to bathe the dog after you apply the frontline or advantage for a couple of days so you don't wash away the treatment.

Hope your puppy gets better, but definitely start with a bath to relieve him while you are working on getting the proper monthly treatment for him.

Don't worry. All you need to do is pop in to a vets for some proper treatment, like Frontline, or Revolution or Advantage. These are all decent spot-ons that work. You put them on the skin on the back of the dog's neck, and they will kill all fleas within 24 hours. Your dog will be protected against fleas for at least a month.

Don't waste your money on anything from a pet store. I know flea shampoos are SUPPOSED to kill fleas, but they don't. Pet stores aren't licensed to sell the proper chemicals for flea treatment - anything you find in store is just going to be a basic pesticide that you can't expect to work.

You will probably have to spray your house as well, since this is where most of the fleas are living. Again, get something from a vets, not a pet store - flea bombs don't work!

You must buy Frontline, TRUST ME!!! Shampoos & flea dips will not work because it gets the fleas off the dog but they are still all over your house. Frontline is a once a month treatment. The fleas will be off the dog within 24 hours. After that the fleas die off quickly in the house because they have no host to feed on. You will not have to do anything else except wait. Which brings me to your hamsters, it is going to be impossible to keep them from becoming infested unless you get them out of the house until the fleas die off. Try asking a friend or relative to care for them for a little while. Check them throughly before you remove them from the house and before you bring them back. If they already have fleas try using a flea comb to get them out. This will have to be repeated several times because the eggs cannot be removed with a flea comb. Hope Rowdy Bear feels better soon!!!

In regards to the answers below: DO NOT WASH YOUR DOG WITH DAWN AS IT IS NO GOOD FOR THE Ph BALANCE OF YOUR DOGS SKIN AND WILL SERVE ONLY TO FURTHER IRRITATE YOU DOGS ALREADY AGITATED SKIN. ALSO, SOAKING YOUR DOG WILL NOT WORK EITHER BECAUSE FLEAS CAN JUMP AN AMAZING DISTANCE AND ONCE YOUR DOG HAS BEEN SUBMERGED IN WATER THE FLEAS WILL MOVE TOWARD YOUR DOGS FACE UNTIL YOU TAKE IT OUT. PLEASE DO NOT OFFER ADVISE TO PEOPLE THAT COULD FURTHER HARM THEIR PETS!!! IF THE COST OF FRONTLINE IS A PROBLEM FIND THE LOWEST PRICE YOU CAN ON THE INTERNET AND CALL YOUR VET AND ASK HIM/HER IF THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO MATCH THE PRICE. THIS IS A VERY HELPFUL HINT FOR ANYONE WHO HAS PETS-VETS HATE TO GIVE OUT PRESCRIPTIONS (YOU DO NOT NEED A PRESCRIPTION TO BUY FRONTLINE) BECAUSE THEY LOSE BUSINESS WHEN YOU BUY PET MEDS ONLINE SO MOST ARE WILLING TO MATCH INTERNET PRICING WHICH IS MUCH CHEAPER.

Well I have some news for you.Don't you worry it is mad flea season. I know you are not a bad owner. It's just that time of year. I hope this info will help you out. There are fleas all over your house. Just cause you keep your dog out of a room don't mean the fleas aren't there. First you need to get Yard spray and spray your yard every where. There are fleas out there. Wait out the time period for it to go into effect. It goes in the ground it will kill fleas. Second after 4 days of spraying give your dog a really good flea bath leave the soap on for five to seven minutes before rinsing. Make sure he is dry before tying him out side or put in a clean kennel out side your home. You need to flea bomb your home. Get lots of one for each room if you have to. Make sure your pets are not in the house. Unplug and cover your electronics with a towel. Get bug spray and spray your car then air it out. After all said and done take your dog to the vet for worm medicine. Most likely has worms too. Fleas carry the eggs. Over the counter wormer's do not work for all worms especially tape worms. Best of luck to you.

I agree with Val. But i want to add, soak your puppy in water at least 5 minutes to kill all fleas. shampoo in dawn.

wait 2 days after bathing before you put on the advantix or fronline, that you can get from the vet a more reasonable price than the pet shops, vacuum everything carpet, couch, etc. in your home every day until gone, and throw out the bag, or empty the vacuum, and take the garbage out.

you mix dawn water and ammonia together and spray the yard really well, this will help control the fleas in the yard.

Frontline Plus - I've used this product on my dogs for the last 7 years and I've never seen a flea. I have inside/outside dogs and we live in the country.

You can purchase this from your local vet or from an online pet catalog like Dr.'s Foster and Smith.

Sunlight soap is a cheap alternative, kills fleas instantly, however one of our dogs has dry skin (Wolfhound cross with long hair), so we don't use it on him as it seems to dry his skin out a bit too much.
