We live in the thumb area of Michigan. We have 4 kids that would need to be watched. They are ages 11,9,3, & 2 years old. My 11 year old is more like a helper & isn't going to need much "sitting", also most of the times it would be night hours & one or both babies would be in bed. The sitter going to my husbands niece who is 17 & want to pay accordingly. We haven't ever had a sister & don't know what would be fare to pay. Do I pay per child or per hour? A flat rate/per-day? How does this work?

I only know what I pay for a sitter. My husband and I decided that $10/hour was fair when we had our first child and then after the second we raised it to $15. Most Baby Sitters don't ask for that much, but we've discovered that a well paid sitter is a good sitter and an available sitter. Besides, caring for someone Else's children is a huge responsibility and should be paid as such. I would suggest that if she will be working for you on a daily basis then a flat/day rate would be good because you two can work out the details together.
Good Luck

usually the going rate is 5 or 6 dollars per hour, then you may want to add a dollar for additional children so maybe like 8 or 9 dollars an hour would work for your situation. Good luck.

When I have to stay the night for the people I work for, they pay me $75.00 per night, and that is for two children. This time is from 7:00p.m. to 7:00a.m.

relies upon on the place you reside. i'm from the midwest and maximum time a flat fee of $25-40 is usual. i could verify with my community purple bypass and notice in the event that they have any graduates from thier babysitting direction and touch considered one of those sitters. they're going to maximum in all probability have the talents mandatory to guard an toddler.

according to Payscale site, the median hourly rate is $6.69. it would also depend on how experienced the babysitter is and if its a weekday or weekend.
