Need help on why someone would do this?

I really need help as to why someone would do this?
Lets say theres a person who is always picking on you. They have other friends who have shared the same experiences as you that they are nice to yet they PICK ON YOU for doing the same thing. They treat you like youre a monster when their own friends have done worse. And its not even like these situations are 'bad things' yet they think its ok for their friends to do but talk bad about you for doing same thing. Why would someone do that?

It takes you to enable them to poke fun. If you walk away or
ignore them, they can't very well continue. Don't feed into their
antagonizing arrogance. If they feel they want to try to intimi-
date you, don't give them the edge. You don't need to hang
around with people like that who are out to do you harm. And
you certainly don't have to take it. Stay out of their way, and
don't allow yourself to be their target. Some people feel they
can get away with anything if the target is shy and not willing
to stick up for themselves. You don't need the hassle. Pick
some new friends completely out of this circle. Friends that
like you for who you are. And you don't have to prove yourself,
and you don't have to put up with a bully.

Without specifics it's hard to tell what you are talking about, people are mean sometimes, it's how you respond to it that will affect you. It's what you think and feel, and even say in response that is the key. Learn how to change your mental response to that kind of stuff and you will be farther advanced than your grandparents.
