My husband and I have been married for 7 years, and we had nothing big for our wedding. We just got married quietly, and in front of the justice of the peace. Our Anniversary is coming up in Feb 2008, and we would like to have a big wedding type party but we are already married. We would like all our friends and family to be present this time. I don't know if I should renew my vows?? As that costs money too. Back to the party, I really want to have a party but the only thing is , I do not know what to call the party?? Any suggestions?? One suggestion I got was "Wedding renewal" PLEASE HELP!! And give me any suggestions!!
Thank you

You can have ANYONE preform a vow renewal. This ceremony is one that has no legal bearing, therefore anyone can do this. You can find a ceremony you like on the web, check out my website, you are welcome to use any that are there. A good friend, family member.....whoever can do this. You can have an altar, or wedding arch at your party to do this ceremony, then go right into the party! Blessings to you, Chaplain Debby

I was hoping I would come across a question like this, because I got married at JP too and I want to do this too (just to know that i wasnt the only one! LOL!)
I would say, plan it just like a wedding, except of course toned down (after all it isnt the real deal), send out invitations just like a wedding and say something like Mr. and Mrs. _______ request your presence at date, time, place, for the renewal of their vows.......... Then add in the invitations about a reception after wards and put something in there about "No gifts please" and have a minister, nice dress for you, a suit for the hubby, flowers, and possibly write your own vows and have a small wedding cake and punch and everything that you would have at a wedding! :) OR if you didnt want the ceremony you could call it an anniversary party??? This is just what I had in mind when me and my husband renew our vows and actually have family attend ;) good luck.

You could call it something as simple as an Anniversary party...or the Long lost wedding reception...Wanting to renew your vows is personal preference really...if you think it would be meaningful to renew your vows in front of family and friends then by all means...go for it.

Yes, you are already married, so you don't plan 'another wedding'. It would be a renewal of vows, which is basically having a blessing or ceremony, followed by a dinner at your home for family and close friends - basically an anniversary celebration.

The party is where you will spend the money. The Vow Renewal is optional, but won't be that costly. ANYONE can perform that for you... especially since you are already married.
So have an anniversary party or vow renewal... your choice.

Just either renew your vows or call it your anniversary party.

Celebrate our 7th anniversary and renewal of vows
Here's a link to a sample of a ceremony like what you are describing that I did a couple of weeks ago.

Renewal of your vow will be appropriate.
Good Luck.

Call it a belated wedding/annivesary reception. Make it something funny like " a reception 7 years in the making".
