What else are you going to do with it. Buy food? Get real, surely you understand that you are not giving your "cash" to the church, but to God. Any thing you give with the wrong spirit avails you nothing, so unless the person sitting next to you in church is more important than God, I would not give anything. Hey, why are you there in the first place. Did you go to church to be seen by others or to worship? If you have the right spirit of worship, you will not be concerned what other people think about what you put in the collection plate.

You do not have to give money, when you go to church. God does not need your $10.00. God wants your heart. If your heart is fixed on God, what you give will be between you and God, and He will love you if you give a nickle or a million.

You can not buy your way into His favor. It that were possible, then Jesus Christ died in vain. God loved you before you were born and He will always love you. His love is not dependent on what you do or don't do.

Before there was Christianity, there was tithing. This was a mandatory ten percent of your profits to be given back to God.

People back then were farmers, mostly, so the ten percent was given back in crops and flocks.

There were businessmen and businesswomen, too, and they usually gave out of their earnings, whether that be money or goods.

In modern times, you are asked to give to the church "as you purpose in your heart". That means you make a promise to God, and you keep it. Nobody else has anything to do with your promise to God.

When you make your decision to God, it is with the understanding that in the olden days, the standard rate was ten percent. You also understand that those who are more richly blessed are expected to give more.

Giving is done out of joy, not compulsion. Giving is not necessarily cash only. You are welcome to give of yourself. Offer your time and talents to do ministry work. Fix a few things, paint a wall, or do the bookkeeping. Offer to call or visit homebound church members, or greet people at the door with a handshake and a church bulletin.

Not to make everyone look at you and say, "Wow, what a good guy!" but because these are "right" things to do, and they are pleasing to God. They show Christianity shining brightly within you, proving that God is real and alive to the rest of the world, and you do not have to say one word. Your actions speak volumes for you.
