The purpose of upsetting dreams is to get the attention of the conscious mind, not to "prove" you are evil or insane. Unlike the previous posters who want to blow this off as something from TV or too much chocolate, I believe upsetting dreams are the most important.
Usually the elements of a dream are facets of yourself. With no context there's no way to tell what facet your dog represents. Although the violence is horrifying when taken literally, it's a fact of life that all personal growth involves something dying to make way for something new. If the killing was voluntary, then I'd guess the dream is about letting go of something or suppressing something so that a new development can occur--and probably an important development, not something trivial like training your dog not to mess up the carpet.
I'll also mention that recovering addicts frequently dream of doing violence to themselves. The addiction has taken over their life so completely that they symbolically kill their old self so a recovered self can emerge. The dreams don't mean they are suicidal--they are a sign of recovery.

Has your dog recently done something it shouldn't have? For example, peeing on the carpet, making a mess around the house, or anything?
If so, you're just venting the anger through dreams, nothing bad.
If not, don't worry. More than likely, you saw something on television relating to this, or heard it in a background conversation. Believe me, it's nothing awful or serious. We all have crazy dreams.

Don't think so much it's just a dream. Maybe it was just an accident in your dream. I have had some bad ones where I woke up thinking my kid ran out in front of a car and couldn't get it out of my head for a couple days.
