Something could be blocking the airway, there could be fluid in the lungs or in the chest compressing the lungs, or it could have eaten something poisonous. Or one of a number of other things. Take the cat in, this is something they need to check out.

I would take it to the vets immedialtey. It could have something stuck in it's throat...is it female? Is it fixed? Could be in labour? But if it is not, i would take it to the vets. I am not one to usually run my animals to the vet for every little think, but when it comes to breating, I wouldn't delay in getting it to the vets.
