Isnt it just asking for more gifts. this is what my sister-in-law thinks. Or is it for people who cant come to the wedding? Can someone please tell me the reason for a wedding shower, and possible the history? Thanks

It began as a way to help the bride & groom to have the neede items for making their new home. Such as kitchen items, bedclothes brooms, mops etc. This was back when folks got married much younger than they do today. In some parts of the country, if you bring or send a shower gift, there is no need to also purchase a wedding gift. In other parts of the country, you're expected to have a gift for both events. Things have really changed in the last 50 yrs. Brides have gotten much more mercenary & I've even known some to make out their guest lists according to the wealth of ea. one, & putting down a dollar figure thay thought each guest shoud spend on a gift. I've received invitations to both, asking that in lieu of gifts, to give cash or cks. It really should be a joyous occasion to honor the bride, give her a few needed gifts & having fun. I always liked to gather up a lg. shoebox of kitchen gadgets such as a handheld can opener, potato peeler, meas. spoons,a couple of pot holders, funnels, salt & pepper shakers etc. Then instead of paper, wrap the whole thing in pretty cuptowels (before dishwashers) or a nice apron. My sister used to like to fill a shoebox with all kinds of herbs & spices. These things were always greatly appreciated. One of my own shower gifts was a silverware divider. I was thrilled as I hadn't even thought of needing one. I also recieved a plastic canister set, a grease can with matching salt & pepper shakers(metal) & 3 sets of matching curtains. I'm sure there were lots of other gifts too but those are the ones I remember. Just to give you an idea of what it is all supposed to be about.....

It's to 'shower' the bride with good wishes for her upcoming wedding. Most people bring gifts. It's just a wonderful time for all the ladies on both sides of the couple to get together and have a great time - showers are lots of fun!
The people invited to the bridal shower are those who will be attending the wedding.

If this was once intentional it was once fairly cheesy to ask you to the bathe w/o inviting you to the marriage ceremony. It might tick me off too if this occurred to me! Too dangerous you already despatched the present. I might name the bride's mom to elucidate or embarrass, something the case could also be: "I was once invited to the bathe, however in no way bought a call for participation to the marriage ceremony. I'm puzzling over if possibly my invitation was once misplaced within the mail." And in a few instances, it's. My father and mother are making plans their anniversary occasion, and all of the clergy at their synagogue bought a call for participation besides the top rabbi. He wasn't certain whether or not he must say some thing, however he spoke up. My father and mother are actually investigating whether or not there was once a mixture up on the invites retailer or the put up workplace. At least yet another man or woman did not acquire their invitation both.

It is for the soon to be married couple can get gifts to begin their new life with. Same thing as a baby shower would be for an expectant mom... you are "showering" them with gifts. Of course if she is inviting people that she hasnt talked to in years, it would be kind of tacky.

i believe that the shower is to help the new couple prepare for their new home with things they will need... the wedding gift should be money to help with starting their life together.. to pay for things that need to be done for the house.. help pay for the mortgage.. stuff like that.. it is not for people that cant come to the wedding..

Its just mainly a get together with the women and you open gifts, eat cake, and have a good time before you get married. I think every woman getting married should have one because you get a bunch of good gifts for your house!!
