Okay, if we are idle to the point that we just lay around, (and being that we are completely healthy by the way), then we become self-indulgent. We end up corrupting ourselves that way because self-indulgence just keeps on going. Better for us to do something constructive with our time than to lay around and let everyone else take all the responsibilities. So we really should not eat because that's basically all we're doing in life.

if a man does not do Gods work or is not seeking the truth then he shall not partake of the food for his soul that only God can give him.
one can only eat/partake of the truth if they are hungry for it and work toward receiving it, if we try to force feed the truth to those who deny it, we are throwing our pearls to the swine that would be a waste of the truth/pearls/food as the swine will destroy everything given to them; on that note we must realize the difference in the lost and the swine, it is our job as Christians to feed the lost

2Th 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
2Th 3:7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
2Th 3:8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
2Th 3:9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.
2Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
2Th 3:11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
2Th 3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
2Th 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
2Th 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
2Th 3:15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

This goes all the way back to Adam. We should work for our bread. It also is a good mitzvah(deed or commandment), in that we should not come to the table empty handed. That is what Paul is trying to teach above.
