There's a good reason,.. they are NOT African. Why should they feel they are???
Black Americans are NOT African either. Why do they allow people to call them African-American? How many of them have been in Africa or know anything about Africa or want to go to Africa???
You need to put things in perspective. Africans are the people who are born in any of the African countries.. Even WHITE people who were born there.. have you thought about that???

Ok I can only speak for Puerto Rico & I want to let you know that in PR there is very little/ almost no rasicm. If you are puerto rican than you are puerto rican. No difference whatever your color is. Puerto rican people are mixed. 61% taino indian mixed w/ black & spanish(white). & since there is no rasicm people mix freely to create what is "puerto rican". Puerto ricans are aware that they are taino, black & spanish & depending on your color you might be more of 1 than another. They still hold certain customs from the africans that were brought over. Bomba & plena music was created w/ the sounds of Africa & there is influence in food too. But you must understand that PR is NOT like America. The Us wants to seperate everyone by color & PR is nothing like this. In PR they might call a dark skinned person black or dark skinned & they might call a light skinned person light or white, but it is not in a negative or rasict way b/c they know they are all one. They will also call you blonde or dark haired, fat or skinny, sometimes even ugly or pretty but these things are all ways they describe people w/o being offensive. You would really have to live there to understand that everyone is equal & people there do not think in terms of Black vs white; however they are aware of their roots.

Their culture is older and better balanced. They are from the country they or there family were born in. Many Americans of Puertorican, Dominican, Cuban descent who have been here 3 or more generations prefer to be thought of as Americans since this is where their loyalties lie and not with their country of origin. There are many cultural people who prefer to be only considered as American and not as the country they may have descended from. People who cling to a heritage that ostracized them realize the futility of embracing a culture that abandoned you. The Pilgrims themselves were diverse in race but were all equal in their culture so did not consider the race as much an issue as the religious freedom, the quest for a better life and better opportunity than their country of origin had to offer. If a person chooses to embrace a past that they are many generations removed from and forgo the opportunities offered them in the here and now, it is a terrible waste of valuable strides made by their ancestors.

i do no longer freak out i be attentive to there are afro latinas. a large number of people talk spanish the place I stay it would not marvel me to pay attention all and sundry talk spanish. I stay in Northern California and that i be attentive to 2 white people over the age of sixty 5 who talk spanish, it relatively is person-friendly. Californians should not be taken aback, and don't you reside in So Cal, people ought to be used to issues like that. I even had an African American spanish instructor massive deal, they only % to instruct themselves.

All lost all touch with their Afros roots when they were brought over as slaves. Slavery ended in the USA in 1865 and earlier in South American so Spanish is their language, and Hispanic is their past and present

Most are not taught about the Slave Trade that brought them to the region of Hispaniola and the Caribbean. Brazil is one country that is making the change, acknowledging slavery in The New World. They adopted the language and culture of those who enslaved them and mixed a lot of African culture, traditions and foods into the larger Latin culture, just like African Americans . They are of Mixed racial heritage, just like African Americans and not completely African.

What language have they learn to speak ? All that you have listed, speak the language of the Hispanics, so what do you expect them to identify themselves as. Don't judge them to hard, all the immigrants coming into America that can't speak, write, read, the English language want to known as Americans.

in latin american countries does not exist different threatment for races.
we are all equal.
we are not going for the street calling to the black man,or the white woman,or the indian kid,
we are just people.
when someone asks for someother ,he does not ask for the black or white or yellow,or grey people.
just persons and racial adjectives don´t exist.
that´s why we don´t say ***** or blanco,or indigena,
we are just latinos.
in oour culture we are just one race.
rating people because of their color is a primitive practice there.
racism is an act of ignorance.
I even laugh about racism because I have never seen it in my country.

It is because they were born in a Spanish speaking country. Everyone relates to their country of origin. I am black and I consider myself American because I was born in this country.
