Well, I am an atheist but I admire some of the characteristics of religious people. Most of them are honest and polite. I wonder how well they would do in politics? At least I am expecting them to be honest -- no corruption, or ganging up on someone. Of course then we have to contend with things like stem cell research and bible in schools, but maybe it would be worth it if it cleans up the political system.

What?

90% of Americans claim belief in god 80% are christian.

90% of politicians are theists. Corruption is rampant.

The REAL question is how would atheists stand in politics?

The main thing atheists and religious people have in common is that we are all from the same race and that is the human race. I am a Christian myself and believe there is to much hate in the world because we like to label ourselves. We are all in the same race and that race is to live life as well as we all can. Hate only breeds hate and nothing else. We all need to set our differences aside and really look at what we have in common and try and make life worth living with one another company. Remember organized religion in about control and how man wants you to live not always what God wants or who ever your higher being. Good luck

wow. hard one. as far as i know, most politicians have been christians or some sort of deist. i admire some of relgious peoples charachteristics as well, but i do not think that being religious means that someone necessarily has deeper morals than someone who is not. the ideas that alot of religions are based apon have great aspects, however that does not mean the followers actually live by those. i think religion should be kept out of politics altogether. it is useless to try to blend the two. they dont seem to mix well.

I am a Christian and I think we all have a common desire for justice and want peace. I know people of both groups who are dynamic, charismatic , funny and humble. I also know people of both groups who are sly, vindictive, jealous and cruel. I do not, however, expect ANYONE in politics to be honest or free from corruption. Perhaps I am jaded.

Who do you think screwed up the political system? You can't be a politician in this country unless you are Christian.

Um, how many politicians have you heard of who *don't* profess a strong faith? I'd like a bunch of atheist politicians personally...they'd at least have several less huge lobbying groups to listen to.

Regardless of our beliefs we are all people, we all eat, we all love, we all hurt.

We need to love each other and not let silly things like religion divide us.
