Well, I find it a little interesting that she brings this to light now -- I've read all the books and that thought never once crossed my mind. I will grant that it kinda makes sense, though. BUT, what's her reasoning -- I mean for the "announcement"? Clearly she "had" to wait until she knew all 7 books would be a commercial success, otherwise she could have theoretically "doomed" the series and movie rights (whatever). Does it make his noble actions any better? No. His failings any worse? No. It seems to be of little consequence, literarily speaking, and only PC consequence to JK herself -- now she has a lot more fans in San Francisco (lol). The announcement really does more for her than literature or anything remotely "lasting". Gay people can do good things just as well as straight people can. Honestly, and I say this with no malice aforethought, it seems almost a first step to saying that she's lesbian. ("Well, if they all accept Dumbledore, then they can accept me as well.") Would that make her books all of a sudden "bad books"? No. Talent is talent, whether it's gay or straight, Democrat or Republican, Christian or Atheist.

The fact that this is even considered news is in itself both illuminating and disturbing considering the people who actually care about such nonsense.

I think it's a last minute thing- she probably just thought of it recently.

But, I think it teaches people that being gay is nothing wrong- Dumbledore was a great man and even though he was gay doesn't mean that he is horrible. It teaches people to tolerate things like this.

I think it's spectacular... A well rounded character in a popular book who just happens to be homosexual...

I applaud J.K Rowling for having the gumption to write such a character..

I think it is wrong and ranks with a pedophile, teaching very young children about sex is wrong and perverted. Save it for adults.

Who cares?
It's a fictional character.
If, while developing this character, she happened to see him as gay, what does it matter?
The fact is, the world loves Dumbledore.

Its great. Promotes tolerance and anti-bigotry. Another step for people to overcome.

Old news and it's great.

This kind of thing really *shouldn't* be news in 2007. Unfortunately, it is.

I think it's fiction, and overly hyped.
