You can wait to get insurance as long as you'd like, providing you don't drive.

If you can't afford insurance you can't drive because you certainly can't afford to get into an accident or get a ticket for driving without insurance. It would be totally irresponsible of you to drive without insurance; you can't pay for damages to your vehicle or to the other driver's vehicle in the case of a 2-car accident. If getting a license is important, you'll have to figure out a way to get insurance. Can your parents put you on their policy. Did you know that for young men in high school, insurance is very expensive!! So, when you do get your license, do yourself a big ol' favor and drive carefully and defensively to avoid accidents and skyrocketing insurance premiums. Good luck to you. Be safe and be responsible.

If you are going to drive, you need insurance. If you are just going to get your license but then not drive, you can wait - but what use is that?

You can get the license whenever you want.

You can't drive a car unless you're insured on it.

The vehicle you take the test in has to have insurance. You can use someone elses car to take the test. Thats what I did.
