In the field of Dentistry,what is a "Dry Socket"?

I had a few of these when I had my wisdom teeth pulled(boy! am I glad my wisdom teeth are out!)before I attended college!

something that REALLY friggin' sucks and hurts. ugh. I'm suffering from one right now.

HELLO MICHAEL,

WHEN A TOOTH IS EXTRACTED THE SOCKET BEGINS TO FILL WITH BLOOD AND FORMS THE HEALING CLOT.
IF THIS HEALING CLOT IS LOST PREMATURELY, THE BARE BONE IS THEN EXPOSED AND THIS IS CALLED A DRY SOCKET. IT'S VERY PAINFUL AND WILL ONLY HEAL AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS.
