I would like to go to Canada by automobile for a few days to visit a friend and travel the countryside, then return to the U.S. do I need a passport to do this? This would be around the end of Novenber 2007.

until January 2008 land & sea travel to/from canada/usa, all you need is a government issued photo I.D. (driver's license, etc...) and a birth certificate/citizenship card... for all air travels you need a passport... good luck and have lots of fun up there...

No, currently all that is needed is a birth certificate and government issued photo ID such as a driver's license for all people in the vehicle.

No. You don't need a passport to travel by land or sea until sometime next summer(the earliest tentative date). Currently you only need on if you plan on flying.

No. We went from Ontario to NY for a day trip. All we needed was a photo ID and birth certificate.

Not yet, that's coming in 2008. Right now, you only need a passport by air.
