I would go for the 1970's even though I think that in 1934. A young Joe Louis was just turning pro and he fought an impressive array of very talented champions.
1 Primo Carnera
2 Max Baer
3 Max Schmeling
4 James J. Braddock
5 John Henry Lewis
Mike Tyson deserves honourable mention as well.

1974 barely. 1949 was just about it's equal with Joe Louis, Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Rocky Marciano, Archie Moore and several other good ones. In fact, I might put those guys ahead of the 1974 crowd. Why didn't you mention them?
