Personally I feel like the whole thing was a publicity stunt. If Dumbledore needed to be gay to forward the plot in some way then that would be different. Just "deciding" that the character is gay after the fact is obviously a ploy to make headlines and sell books. I also think that since his sexuality is totally irrelevant to the story, why are we adding a sexual element to a story intended for children? Kids get enough of that in their faces as it is. Can't we have an innocent sex free story once in a while?

You just said yourself "I'm Straight". You can say that without any fear of any reprisal. This IS NOT true for gay. People need to stand up in some cases and show that they are different and that they are still OK. I don't know who she is either, and don't care, but if she wants to tell people she is gay, that is no different than her saying she is a she, or a he, or Black, or Asian or a great cook; it is part of her and she has the right to tell people. And, you have the right to talk about yourself as well; but I think you are an assho*le to judge gays for standing up and being counted. That is where the power is, and that is what stops the discrimination when people know that there are millions upon millions of gays in the USA and the world; millions of people equal power to live lives without harassment and discrimination, which they now STILL endure.
Have a nice straight day, dude.

in all probability by way of fact JK Rowling likes to offer back memories on her characters that are actually not part of the books. it relatively is something she's performed some cases via the years and this grew to become into considered one of them. She in all probability constantly imagined Dumbledore as being gay and wanted to share that with the readers. She does say she did it by way of fact it got here up interior the production of one of the movies the place she reported the character grew to become into gay. It in all probability is something of a ploy to get her interest and funds to boot, yet so what no remember if it relatively is? we are actually not speaking approximately literature right here, we are speaking approximately Harry Potter! i think of she in all probability enjoys the debate too, you be attentive to the way Christians are so antagonistic to Harry Potter books, she's purely toying with them giving them yet another excuse to hate her books. I fantastically doubt that her acceptance is purely going to bypass away or that she fears that. She won't in any respect sell yet another e book sequence back like she bought Harry Potter, yet those books are a huge part of the favored lifestyle of the early part of this century. in case you doubt that her acceptance is unlikely everywhere, purely seem on the trend, the form of books bought and the languages those books are printed in! She's up there with John Lennon and Jesus!

you're really ignorant...try educating yourself before you ask stupid questions like this. straight people don't have to tell people they're straight because it is assumed. it's a huge deal for someone to come out as being gay in a society that is so judgmental and hateful of people who are not straight.
and i don't know much about harry potter books but i'm pretty sure dumbledore or whatever is just a character. the author is saying that she wrote the character as being gay so your question really isn't relevant to this situation.

Its because the Harry Potter series is very popular. Thats why it is getting the attention you are bothered by right now. Simple solution: Since you don't care about Harry Potter(like me), all you have to do is just ignore it.

Gays don't just want to tell everyone that they're gay, they DEMAND that everyone accepts and embraces their lifestyle. They are the only social group anywhere that insists on declaring their sexual preference. Frankly, I don't think they understand just how much straight people DON'T CARE what they do. Just be a good neighbor and leave me alone -- like everyone else should do.

Thanks for ASSUMING that we even KNOW who this "dumb-somebody" IS and where he comes from... and thanks to the answerers who inadvertantly informed me.

Now.. AS IF I CARE WHAT a FICTIONAL character is ... these days, the liberals and politically correct crowd take any and ALL opportunities to preach their sacred doctrines... and it looks like this is just one more chance to do so.

As the one answerer said, these folks not only want us to know they are homosexual, but they want us to ACCEPT their homosexuality... and they will do so at every chance possible.

I am not a Harry Potter fan whatsoever, but you cannot deny the influences this "phenomena" has had on our society. The procurors of the "secular progressive" movement wish to preach their doctrine of "tolerance," which in their book does NOT mean tolerance, but acceptance.

Although I don't understand what this question has to do with polite behavior, I do know that these "secular progressives" are usually anything BUT polite when ANYONE expresses a viewpoint in opposition to theirs... because they feel that they are the superior and SMART ones, and that if you do not ACCEPT THEIR point of view, that YOU are the IDIOT. This, of course, is not polite behavior. Well.. in any case...

Have a polite day!

It's because straight people tell everyone they're straight without even thinking about it. That's why gay people wear rainbows, etc. It's a symbol of pride in who they are.
